Banyan Tree to get permission for Vietnamese casinos
Banyan Tree Holdings Ltd., a Singapore-listed hotel and resort developer, will acquire a casino license for Laguna a ̆ Nkot Beach Resort (pictured) on Vietnam's central coast. Vietnamnet, a Vietnamese English-language media outlet, reported, citing Vietnam Investment Review.
The source of the report is the People's Commission of the province of ̛ Thien-Hú, which was quoted as saying that executive chairman of Banyantry Holdings, Ho Kwon Ping, would get approval for the gaming facility.
Later Monday, GGRASIA sent an email to Banyan Tree Holdings seeking interest in Banyan Tree's project and confirmation of its casino license report, but there was no reply at the time of posting this story.
"These are the early and preliminary stages of the project and this license application is a long-term process, so we don't have any specific details about this project yet," a spokesperson told GGRAsia in an email response sent by management at Laguna a ̆ on Monday evening
Laguna La ̆ng Co's website said in a press release dated June 18, 2012 that the first phase of the project was "a $200 million investment financed through the Banyan Tree Indochina Hospitality Fund, the first real estate investment fund established by the [Banyan Tree] Group in 2008."
The website describes the project as a 280-hectare (316-acre) resort. It has a Banyan Tree a ̆ Nico-branded hotel and an 18-hole golf course.
