Paradise Casino Walkerhill Reopens Virus Tests Needed Again
On Monday (January 4), at 7 a.m., Paradise Co., Ltd., a foreigner-only casino, reopened its Paradise Casino Walkerhill concert hall in the capital city of Seoul.
Paradise's Walkerhill site closed on Dec. 15 due to COVID-19 measures, and extended its closure until this Monday, Dec. 28.
Venues must still provide proof that all customers have tested negative for COVID-19 infection in order to enter the casino. The certificate must be issued by an accredited health agency or hospital, according to the venue's website.
In response to phone inquiries from GGRAsia, a Paradise Casino Walkerhill representative clarified that the certificate must be issued within one week of the customer's intended visit. Previously, the site accepted all approved test certificates issued within two weeks of the visit.
The property began requesting for a test certificate on November 30.
The representative also confirmed that all customers with the necessary test certification at the venue will be given a 100,000 won ($92) "lucky coupon" that can be exchanged for casino chips for that amount.
On Wednesday, Paradise told GGRAsia in an email that it would not comment on how many customers have visited the reopened casinos in the meantime.
As of 12 a.m. on Wednesday, South Korea had 839 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with 65,818 confirmed cases, including 1,027 deaths, according to the ministry.
According to a recent briefing by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all South Koreans entering the country via the United Kingdom or South Africa, two countries currently known to have COVID-19 cases, as well as foreigners must present a certificate of freedom from COVID-19 infection issued within 72 hours of departure.
The rule will apply to all foreigners arriving by air from Friday (Jan. 8). According to local media, the rule will also apply to all those arriving by sea from Jan. 15.
