RWG shuts down Jan. 22-Feb. 4 amid Malaysia lockdown
Malaysia's Resort World Genting (RWG) casino complex will be "temporarily closed" from Friday (Jan. 22) to Feb. 4 due to a so-called movement control order during this period due to COVID-19 measures. The order applies to Pahang province near the capital Kuala Lumpur, which is home to a hill resort in the Genting Highlands.'
It follows Wednesday's notice on the casino property website operated by Genting Malaysia Bhd.
The casino complex (pictured) had already said in a Jan. 12 notice that it would reduce its operational capacity and temporarily suspend some attractions under new movement control orders imposed by the Malaysian government on other regions.
Wednesday's notice said Resort World Genting's "essential resort-based services" including security, fire fighting, utilities and clinics would "stay operational."
The resort added to consumers that it "regretes the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the resort."
The venue's publicist also said customers who book during the affected period can request a "date change or refund."
"We appreciate your patience and kind understanding while we accept your request during this time," it said.
Last year's movement control order forced Resort World Genting to suspend operations for about three months from March to June 2020.
Malaysia is currently seeing a fresh surge in COVID-19 cases. There were 4,008 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to noon on Wednesday, according to the health ministry. The new cases brought the nationwide number of infections to 169,379. A total of 630 people had died in Malaysia as of noon on Wednesday due to COVID-19.
